At The Perth School of Ballet, our uniform is an important part of the training environment. While it may seem like a simple requirement, correct attire plays a key role in helping students get the most out of their classes.
Uniform helps create a focused, professional atmosphere in the studio and allows teachers to clearly see the body so they can give the most accurate corrections.
Supporting Good Technique
In ballet, small details make a big difference. Properly fitted leotards, tights and ballet shoes allow teachers to see alignment, posture and placement clearly.
This means we can more easily spot things such as:
- posture and spinal alignment
- hip and leg placement
- foot articulation and turnout
- shoulder and arm positioning
When teachers can see these details, they can help students develop safe, strong technique.
Building Good Habits
Wearing the correct uniform also helps students develop the habits expected in dance training. Arriving to class neatly dressed and prepared encourages:
- focus and discipline
- respect for the studio environment
- a sense of pride in their training
These habits become especially important as students progress in their ballet education.
Creating a Sense of Community
Uniform also creates a sense of unity within the school. When everyone dresses the same, the focus shifts away from clothing and back to what truly matters — the dancing.

Hair and Presentation
Neat presentation is also part of our studio expectations.
For ballet classes, hair should be securely styled in a bun, and jewellery should not be worn to class. This helps ensure dancers can move safely and without distraction.
